The volunteers with VOICE are an integral part to the program’s success in reaching out to victims and McHenry County’s communities. All volunteers receive the required ICASA 40 Hour Sexual Assault Crisis Intervention Training free of charge. Five Pioneer Center trainings are also mandatory.
Volunteers with the VOICE program primarily provide Medical Advocacy and Telephone Crisis Intervention 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Volunteers also provide feedback and assistance in the way the program operates and the efficiency of the 24-hour crisis intervention. When available, volunteers are given the opportunity to attend health fairs and other community functions to provide information at the VOICE booth or table.
Volunteers receive continuing education through monthly staff meetings as well as the opportunity to voice opinions on policies and procedures. At each meeting the volunteers and volunteer coordinator work together to complete the coming month’s on-call calendar; this ensures that each volunteer gets an even and fair amount of ‘on-call time.’
If you are interested in volunteering, please contact Katelyn McShea at 815-759-7055 or by e-mail at kmcshea@pioneercenter.org.
