Rush A Success!

John and Janet Smith and
Smith Engineering Consultants were event
sponsors at the annual Gold Rush event.
The event raised over $78,000 which will
be used to support the programs and
services offered Pioneer Center for
Human Services. |

and Helen Ruth attended Pioneer’s Gold
Rush event at the Sanfilippo Estate in
Barrington Hills, IL on April 21, 2007.
In addition to an elegant dinner and a
silent and live auction held in the
Carousel building, the event included a
tour of the estate. |
Pioneer Center for Human Services is proud
to announce that net proceeds from their
2007 event topped $78,000. The special
evening to celebrate the Jubilee year
included presenting honors to Pioneer
founders and their families.
Among the honorees were Trudy Huff Schuch,
Jean Goulet Huff, and Kathleen Huff Wahlen
whose mother, Verona Huff, was the driving
force that formed the first group of
concerned parents and community leaders who
believed that persons with developmental
disabilities deserved a proper education.
Elsie Batjes, an original founder received a
medal along with the children of Rita
Mercure and Myrtle Davidson. Other community
founders honored were Dr. Santo Ruggero of
Wonder Lake and Walter Dean of McHenry.
Medals were also awarded to past executives
Ann Patla and Jeff Epstein. Bob Lambourn and
Connee Meschini, past executives who were
not able to attend will receive their medals
privately. Major donors were included in the
honors.
In addition to an elegant dinner and a
silent and live auction held in the Carousel
building, the event included a tour of the
estate of Mr. and Mrs. Jasper Sanfilippo in
Barrington. The tour included listening to
lovely music from restored music machines
and an organ concert.

daughter Donna Spicer. Dean was among
the honorees as Pioneer held a special
evening to celebrate the Jubilee year of
Pioneer Founders and their families. |

president & owner of Trench-It, Inc.,
Union, IL, along with her husband Dan,
hosted a corporate table at Gold Rush
2007, Pioneer’s annual fundraising
event. |

Foglia, Sage Products are members of
Pioneer’s Development Advisory
Committee. Margaret along with Erin
Kelly (not in photo) from Woodstock,
were co-chairpersons of the event. |
Dr. Santo
Ruggero and his wife Mary were awarded a
gold medal at Pioneer Center for Human
Services’ Gold Rush event for their role
as a community member involved with the
beginnings of Pioneer nearly 50 years
ago. Ruggero from Wonder Lake was a
physician who along with families
seeking services for their development
disabled children founded Pioneer.. |
