Dear Friends of Pioneer Center for Human Services,
Pioneer Center for Human Services has grown since its founding in 1958 and is now one of the largest social service agencies in McHenry County serving more than 1,800 people annually!
Over time, funding on the local, state, and federal level has not kept pace with the need for services. Illinois ranks 51st nationwide in funding for individuals with developmental disabilities according to the “State of the States in Developmental Disabilities” study. The National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) gave Illinois an F for mental health services in 2008. As we enter fiscal year 2010, our budget is very uncertain due to the Illinois state budget backlash in the human services area. I have been advocating for restoration of funds for developmentally disabled and mental health funds in Springfield.
It is my hope, as it is my colleagues’, that the funds will be restored so that we may continue to serve the county’s most vulnerable citizens with the programs and services that help them and their families with day to day living assistance.
Pioneer will continue to grow to meet the demand for services with people not only with special needs, but in providing services for people with mental health problems, traumatic brain injury and early intervention for children from birth to age three, services to victims of sexual assault through the VOICE program and to homeless men, women, and their children through McHenry County PADS. We can only do it with financial support from you and the help of the community, which will help us to accomplish not only our mission but our vision, which is: “Empowering individuals to achieve their full potential.” Please join us in preserving our future. For information on how you can help please call: Christin Kruse at: (815) 759-7114 or email ckruse@pioneercenter.org.
Sincerely,
