At Pioneer Center, we believe in the power of fun. We offer many recreational and sport activities to our clients in order to build our stronger, happier community.
Pioneer Centers Special Olympics program offers 8 sports that vary in difficulty and are available to all individuals enrolled in the developmental disabilities division. Athletes have the opportunity to participate in practices during the day program, compete in weeknight games, meets, regional and state tournaments, and events. The Special Olympics program utilizes the Sage YMCA, Sky High Volleyball, and other local recreation facilities to provide as many opportunities as possible.
Pioneer Center provides staff and volunteers as coaches that are trained to work with our athletes. Most sports are free of charge to our athletes and transportation accommodations are made as often as possible.
Recreation opportunities, including overnight trips are offered for individuals enrolled in the developmental disabilities division throughout the year. Recreation opportunities such as sporting events, bingo nights and local entertainment are offered at a nominal cost and run year round. Out of town trips are offered several times a year to various locations. Recent trips have included a night in Milwaukee for a Cubs/Brewers game and a tour of Harley Davidson and a trip to the Chicago Bears training camp where participants were able meet some of the Chicago Bears.
