Welcome to our first Family Connections e-newsletter where we will create, coordinate and become a connection of resources to benefit family members, guardians and others connected to Pioneer Center’s developmental disability programs.
Nearly 60 years ago a small group of parents in McHenry County came together and established a day program for their children with developmental disabilities. Today another group of parents are building upon the determination of Pioneer Center’s founding families. This group, along with Pioneer Staff, has joined together to create Family Connections, a Pioneer Center news source with a focus on communication, education and events.
Our communication piece will be published every two months. The first education workshop will cover “Special Needs Trust.” If you have one, great! Statistically you are in the top 10% of families with a trust set up for their loved one with developmental disabilities. Mark your calendar and join us on November 9 to learn more! In fact, the parents on the committee suggested setting up a trust be a goal you aim to complete before the end of the year!
And, who doesn’t like fun? The events committee will be working on a couple of fun family events in 2018.
If you are interested in becoming a part of the parent/sib committee, please let me know. We hope you enjoy the news, calendar and upcoming events featured in this edition.
Happy fall y’all!
