May is Mental Health Awareness Month and each year Pioneer Center for Human Services helps raise awareness by hosting a Mental Health Recovery Rally. The event will take place on Friday, May 30 from 12:00 – 2:00 pm at Pioneer Center for Community Mental Health, 4100 Veterans Parkway, McHenry.
“The purpose of the Mental Health Recovery Rally is for people to get together, have a good time and celebrate recovery,” shares James Carpenter, Recovery Specialist for Pioneer Center and one of the event’s coordinators, “Anyone interested in recovery or learning more about mental health services available in our county should attend.”
Rally attendees will hear stories from recovery specialists and people taking an active role in their recovery; presentations on bullying and its effect on a community and about the stigma of mental illness; plus, learn about treatment options available to help take control of your life.
For those stopping by the event during their lunch hour, Scoops from Woodstock will be onsite offering $5 hotdog, chip, and soda lunches.
The event is made possible by McHenry County’s very own Star105.5 radio station—who will be broadcasting live from the event.
