MCHENRY, IL—The facts, although startling, are real—every six minutes a woman is raped. One in three girls and one in six boys will be sexually assaulted by the age of 18. One in three high school or college students will experience violence in a relationship.
Survivors of sexual assault oftentimes feel like they are alone in dealing with the aftereffects of the crime. Finding someone to understand seems like an impossible task. That’s why VOICE Sexual Assault Services, a program of Pioneer Center for Human Services, created a Sexual Assault Survivor Support Group and a Significant Other Support Group.
The Survivor Support Group meets on Thursdays from 4:30-6:30 pm. Participants join other survivors and learn to use their “VOICE” to share stories and begin the healing process.
The Significant Other Support Group meets on Tuesdays from 4:30-6:30 pm. Here family and friends learn how to provide the support needed to begin the healing process.
All meetings are held at the VOICE Sexual Assault Services Office at 109 S. Jefferson Street, Woodstock. For more information and to join either group, call VOICE at (815) 759-7055.
VOICE is the only Illinois Coalition Against Sexual Assault (ICASA) certified program in McHenry County. In addition to support groups it provides 24/7 crisis intervention and is 100% free and confidential. It doesn’t matter if the assault happened yesterday or 25 years ago–it is never too late to reach out for help.
