McHenry County PADS, a program of Pioneer Center for Human Services, is in search of an church shelter site to take over the Thursday evening slot for women and children.
Each year a contingent of ten volunteer church sites open their doors to homeless men, women and children throughout the county. Working together they alternate the night they are open to ensure all individuals have a warm place to sleep during the months of October through April. Although, independent from McHenry County PADS, the sites work in cooperation with the program providing vital respite from the cold winter weather.
Volunteer church sites open their doors, on their assigned night, at 7:00 pm offering individuals a warm dinner, a place to sleep, breakfast in the morning and a sack lunch to take with them when they leave by 7:00 am. Each church’s shelter site is run by volunteers.
Churches interested in filling this vital Thursday night time slot for women and children can contact Rebecca Heeman-Moore, PADS Outreach Case Manager, at 815.482.3044 or [email protected].
