Our History, Mission, Vision & Values

In 1958, a small group of parents began meeting to determine how best to educate their children with developmental disabilities. Parents wanted more for their children and they dared to dream of the opportunity for education and enriching the lives of their loved ones. The group bonded together to create the first day school program in McHenry County, Illinois for children with developmental disabilities.

Decades before the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA), this act of determination led to what would eventually become Pioneer Center for Human Services. To this day, we continue to salute the courageous efforts of our founders and their steadfast focus on building a diversified, equitable community where all are respected and included.
