At Pioneer Center for Human Services, our Homeless Services are working to make homelessness rare, brief, and nonrecurring, by providing emergency shelter and support services that enable people to overcome homelessness and find pathways home.
Your commitment helps families like Natashia and Michael and their four children, who were facing homelessness when their landlord decided to see the house they were renting. They came to McHenry County PADS when they struggled to find affordable housing. We helped with emergency shelter getting the kids to school, job opportunities for the parents, counseling and connections for finding permanent housing.
Our shelter aims to do the very best we can to make everyone’s story a success, and without community support, it wouldn’t be possible. Because of you, people like Natashia and Michael are able to achieve a fresh start for their family. This past year, a client was asked to leave the shelter because of inappropriate behaviors exhibited due to alcoholism. We referred his to treatment resources which he accepted. After treatment, he had an awakening that the PADS team was trying to help him be his best. On his 2nd intake to PADS, we were able to help him secure an apartment. He lives life gratefully now. He told us that with our help, he sits in his new apartment in awe. He said, “I received so much more than what I deserved.”
