History

In 1958, a small group of parents began meeting to determine how best to educate their children with developmental disabilities. The group of parents held a steadfast commitment to developing programs that would build self-confidence and independence in their children and help them to reach their full potential.

As a result of their vision, and dedication, the first day school program in McHenry County, Illinois for children with developmental disabilities became a reality and is now known as the Pioneer Center for Human Services. We continue to serve and grow, but we cannot do it alone. Pioneer Center is able to accomplish its mission through the generous support of our community, our businesses, and our friends. Together, they share in our belief that the individuals we serve deserve programs that not only help them thrive but transform!
